Arntson's Modified Male Chauvinist Chili

This is by far my favorite chili recipe and unlike any other you will ever cook or eat.  It was given to me sometime in the 1980's by a friend that I worked with at a little company in Ann Arbor called Interface Systems.  Credit for the recipe goes to Lyn Arnston.  At the end of the recipe I've included other links.  It appears that this recipe has been making its way around the world!  I tried Googling the recipe to determine where it originated and got back 52,000 results which leads me to believe this recipe is in the public domain!  I even tried to find out why it's called "Male Chauvinist" chili.  No luck.  Here's the recipe.

Ingredients:

- 6 bacon slices
- 10 oz hot (or reg-I've also used sweet) Italian sausage, cut into 1" slices (use link type)
- 10 oz lean ground beef (I beef it up by doing 1 lb)
- 1 large spanish onion, cut into chunks
- 1 bell pepper, cut into large pieces *
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 cup of dark red wine
- 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp hot dry mustard (or reg dry mustard)
- 1 tsp celery seeds *
- 1 1/2 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 6 cups Italian tomatoes (or whole reg canned tomatoes)
- 1 15 oz can pinto beans *
- 1 15 oz can kidney beans (I wrote "in chili sauce")
- 1 25 oz can of hot dog chili (optional-I added this one time and thought it was good)
- Tabasco sauce to taste (optional-I added this one time and thought it was good)
- 1 15 oz can of garbanzo beans *

* = if desired ingredient~I believe this is where the "Modified" in the title is derived.

Cooking Instructions:
  1. Brown bacon in a large cast iron pot or 4 1/2 quart Dutch oven.  Drain. Crumble bacon and set aside.  Discard bacon fat from the pot, leaving only a film.
  2. Brown sausage.  Set aside with bacon.  Discard sausage fat from pot again leaving only a film.
  3. Brown burger.  Set aside with bacon and sausage.  Discard fat from the pot again leaving only a film.
  4. Saute' onion, green pepper, and garlic over low heat for 2-3 minutes and then stir in the wine and Worcestershire sauce; simmer uncovered about 10 minutes.
  5. Stir in mustard, celery seeds, chili powder, salt and pepper; simmer another 10 minutes.
  6. Mash tomatoes and add it with the meats to the pot and heat to a boil.  Reduce the heat and simmer covered for 1/2 hour, stirring occasionally.
  7. Stir in beans with liquid into the chili; heat to a boil.  Reduce heat and cover.  Simmer an hour, stirring occasionally.
I did find other versions of the Male Chauvinist Chili recipe online and below are the links.  There is very little variation between the recipes.  One did add Jalapeno peppers which I thought was a better idea than my Tabasco sauce.  Oh, one used smokey links in place of the Italian sausage:
